Effective monitoring and reporting of inventories for energy demand and emissions

ITS Lab Site (43)

As a key player in ensuring the sustainable development of the maritime sector, MARINA acknowledges the pressing need to address environmental challenges and reduce the sector’s impact on the planet. However, the maritime sector’s inability to accurately quantify the effects of transport activity on energy demand and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions remains a significant gap.

The absence of comprehensive data and bottom-up approaches has rendered the sector incapable of effectively measuring the outcomes of policies towards pollution reduction, impeding the path towards a greener and more sustainable future for the maritime sector.

MEDIANS is a pioneering data collection system engineered to swiftly estimate energy consumption and GHG emissions based on transportation activity in the maritime sector. By utilizing MEDIANS, policymakers gain access to timely, data-driven evaluations, enabling evidence-based interventions and policies that enhance energy security and environmental sustainability for the maritime sector.

Applications

Project MEDIANS aims to provide a system that can be used towards a timely and data-driven policy evaluation and interventions related to energy security and environmental sustainability. Through this, we hope to help [regulatory] agencies craft policies and interventions that can drive energy efficiency, energy security and environmental sustainability for the Philippine Maritime Sector.
